Today we take yet another look into Set 10, in particular, Soul Calibur's "Flash of the Blade". The card of the day: Commitment to Excellence. One of the greatest facets of Set 10 are the plethora of 6 checks, and this one really makes its mark!
The stats and effect of Commitment to Excellence are: 2 difficulty, 6 control check, All, Chaos, Fire, +1 Low Block. E Commit: Your attack with 5 or less damage gets +3 damage.
What I love most about this card is its diversity. 5 damage or less covers just about any attack in the game with those symbols, and honestly, an attack with more damage shouldn't need any further help. There are two ways to really look at this card: How it impacts the meta now, and how it impacts the game come February, when already-existing pumps such as Absurd Strength and The Way of the Mightiest cycle.
In today's game, I honestly think it's best used in All or Chaos. All doesn't exactly have the biggest muscle, atleast, not compared to the likes of Earth, Evil, or Fire, so I really think this makes a great addition, especially since All has a lot of throws. Chaos, too, is short of damage output outside of "Savage Fighter" and "Challenge the Master", one has a timing, the other is heavily-costed. This gives a great +3 to the majority of attacks, and rolls a 6 with a nice block. Even Fire isn't completely opposed to this. ***Adon*** absolutely adores it, and Fire still has access to Flying Cross Chop, Clones, and Scourge of Zeus.
Then there's February. We will still have Impressive Physique and Undefeated, but honestly, I really think this card overshadows those two, again, because it's so simple to utilize, and rolls better numbers than those two.
Also, new damage pump characters like .:::Mitsurugi:::. can totally abuse this card. As you witnessed not to long ago, Mitsurugi can pump any attack from 3 or less damage by 2. Theoretically, that should leave your attack at 5 or less damage, more than ample timing for this card (not to forget the aforementioned Savage Figher, which shares two symbols with this card).
It may not be a "game-breaking" card, but I think it'll be a near-staple to just about all All, Chaos, and Fire decks come february.
Well guys, it's been a great first article. My name's Shinji Mimura, or as I'm known throughout the UFS World, Mr Game and Watch (obviously he is my character of choice in Brawl). Hope you guys enjoyed!
