Average user rating0.0out of 5 Personally, I didn't know vampires had auras. I also never knew that vampires could morph into demons at will, turn males into females, or toss out fire like they were going out of business. Demitri has educated me through his nefarious bloodsucking antics, and we'll be looking at his character only Asset today. Perhaps because of it's Super Rare status or because of the fact that few play Demitri, we haven't heard of many people packing it. At least, I haven't. There's not more to it than meets the eye, but it may be a solid card that's been overlooked for these past few weeks. Let's prod it further and see what happens when we are able to gaze at a vampire's aura.
Putting it in play is a cinch. At 3/5, with a symbol spread that matches two symbols with any version of Demitri out there (Three with Demitri 3), it's simply amazing. With a mid block at +1, it's not even a dead card in hand (unless, of course, your opponent has Soul Power, but you would never let that happen, now would you?) if you need to block in any situation. What may turn off people from actually playing it, however, is the extremely vanilla effects this card has, in addition to it's Unique status. They will not change the course of the universe nor will they win you games just like that, but they will make you think, and since this Card of the Day feature encourages free thinkers when it comes to deckbuilding, or at least, I like to think it does, that's a good thing.
So, here are the effects : " E Discard 1 momentum : Your opponent's attack gets -1 damage. " It also has another effect which reads : " E Discard 2 momentum: If this attack deals damage, your opponent discards their entire momentum. "
I do believe that, by reading this card's second effect, everyone just let out a gigantic collective "OH HELL YES!" for Tsunami Sabre and Unorthodox Fighting Style. However, not only is the first effect far more powerful than most realize, it can be quite deadly in the right hands. An Earth Demitri build can abuse that effect using the many momentum generation tools Earth now has (Dancing Battle Kabuki or The Thirst Always Wins) alongside it's damage reduction in order to make all attacks go down to zero. It's especially powerful when you consider Demitri 3's -2 damage at the cost of a foundation. It also helps that Demitri 3 generates momentum like it was going out of style.
Still, that second effect screams Tsunami Sabre for more than one reason. If your opponent uses Powerful or Multiple abilities, just a single attack on your turn can screw up their plan. If you use Tsunami Sabre, you can make sure it will hit for an absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary amount of damage. Plus, Chaos has tools to deal away with anything that may be a thorn in your side - Preventing the Curse, Pieces of Eight, Unorthodox Fighting Style if he wants to block, etc.
That second effect neuters Yun-Seong 1 as well, since he has nothing more to commit. Simply put, if your opponent depends on momentum to kill or just do anything in the game, you are at one damaging attack and 2 momentum away from removing his options.
Final judgment? Even if it doesn't really fit into your strategy with Demitri 1, I say pack it anyway. Momentum gain decks pulling off their combos is always annoying, it's a 5 CC so it's not a bad check, and with all the (minimum 1) reduction abilities in those symbols, a way to simply not take damage is always nice. Stats-wise, it's justified to jam it in your deck, but it's abilities are nothing to scoff at, either. The only way I would say to not put it in your deck is if you aren't running Demitri or it is counter-productive, somehow, to what you want your deck to do. And even then, I'd still heavily consider it.
