105Today, we'll cover one of Yang's two rarely played attacks in the form of Toro Zan. A move that defined Yang in Street Fighter 3 : Third Strike, it seems to be completely forgotten here, as it is rarely seen in decks, even Yang ones. A good look at the card will reveal why. No block, a symbol spread that has already a lot of good attacks, and a Yang Stun : 2 that makes this a dead card in any deck that isn't headed by Yang himself. Is there anything good about this card? You'll see if you read further on.

As is often the case, we'll look at the card's raw stats before going into further discussion. It is a 4 difficulty, 3 control attack that has no block, 4 speed mid zone for 3 damage. It's ranged and has the usual ranged text (This attack may be played as a block against any ranged attack as if this card had a mid block of +0), if you are playing Yang, it is Stun : 2 and it also has the following effect : " Destroy 1 foundation : This attack gets +X speed. X equals the difficulty of the destroyed foundation. " Looking at the card in and of itself, it's not that bad! A decent Stun if you are Yang, and the potential for a good speed buff on the card itself, and that's not even considering the actual stads. 4 mid 3 damage is a bit on the low scale, but let's continue on.

Uses for this card vary - Outside of Yang, there are simply too many better cards for this one to see play, but this particular writer has the opinion that it could stand to have it's place in Yang, even if he can play those same better cards.

At 4 difficulty, it is easily passable on the second turn, which means that Yang's stun will be critical in damaging the opponent. What's most interesting about it is that it shares two symbols with the following two cards : Manifest Destiny and No Memories. Yang can abuse that to lock down a character if it has Death, Fire or Life, and it has it's place in a Death/Fire deck if only because of that. Most characters at top tier events nowadays will have at least one of these three symbols, which means that Manifest Destiny will be able to lock down some quite annoying things. Even if it only deals 3 damage, it can be the opener for a very powerful attack on turn 2 or 3 for Death and Fire.

Looking at Life, however, it may prove to be a bit more of a different application. Fire and Life have access to one of the strongest damage buffs in the game right now, Deceptive Look. Already, without using it's E, it becomes a 4 mid 7, and with it's E, it can become quite fast, especially considering the amount of speed buffs in the game today. Commit your speed buff of choice (not named Unrequited Love, as this requires the card to have a block), then destroy it using Toro Zan's E. An easy +4/+5 speed that will turn this attack into part of a one-two attacks one turn kill.

Final judgment? This card is not as bad as it sounds. Many will say : "Well, it's not Chain Throw." And they would be right. This doesn't attempt to replace Chain Throw in any way. It's function is different, and especially for Yang, as he can use that Stun : 2 to commit the opposition early in the game. Through Death and Fire, it is more of a control piece that you will toss out before annihilating your opponent, and through Fire and Life, it has the potential to defeat your opponent, if not by itself, then with a little help from it's friends. Oh yes, it gets by with a little help from it's friends. Ultimately, if you're Yang, this card opens some good possibilities, but if you aren't, don't bother. It really wasn't made for other characters.

I'm going to pitch another combo that will help buff the attack a little more or hella deadlier. A friend of mine alway play's with Yang when I play with my Yun deck (Real Epic). He finds many ways and "Reasons" to buff attacks without the use of Absurd, especially cards that are good and cannot be buffed by Absurd such as Attack with 3 or less damage. His deck is a Fire aggro and it is very good. He has 4 Chain Throws, 4 Toro Zans 4 Flowing Gale, & 4 Fighting Frenzy.

Now his strategy with His **Yang** is that he take advantage and stock up on Foundations for the first 2 or 3 turns with the 7 hand size. The only cards he waits to draw is a couple of Toro Zan and Flowing Gale, maybe Fighting Frenzy and A Powerful Offer. Usually before he get those, if he gets a Chain Throw before all of that which is most likely +80% of the time maybe even more if he draws into more, either or he's going to dispense them all for momentum. He'll hit you with with so that it goes to momentum. Staying alive is his priority and blocking he does fairly well while he stocks. Using cards such as Superior Witch helps in this manner. Buth by turn 3,4,or 5 which is always get ready to feel defenseless yourself, because he may have a couple of Unrequited Love some Savage Fighter's, Deceptive and Ultimate and Immortal's to go.

Here we go... First Form - Flowing Gale [Speed Pump w/Unrequited, FG:E] usually hits 90% of the time. If so then he checks a 5... Then here comes 2 Toro Zan (Fighting Frenzy if nothing else). 1st Toro Zan [Stun 2, Damage Pump w/Savage Fighter, Speed Pump w/Yang), 2nd Toro Zan [Stun 2, Speed Pump w/Yang & Toro, Damage Pump w/Deceptive, Ultimate, Powerful Offer & Savage [If he has more to use]. From the Deceptive he's most likely to get a +10 damage from that, the savage +5 damage (Vary the number of Copies), Ultimate he may get +4 or +5 more (Vary the number of copies), and a Powerful Offer Action to go with the plus +4 or more damage depends on how many copies he got in his hand and if he has momentum for it. If Fighting Frenzy and not Toro it will be +6 or more damage from Offer. Maybe even more if he got Manifest on the floor as well. But yea... I dont feel like doing the math for all that but most likely I am never able to block that and its plain over kill. I might be lucky to not really be embarassed if he don't also have the Street Life in there, lol!

So yup Toro Zan is a good card if used with the right cards. I say its should be a go in any yang deck only if you got alot of damage pump.
