I am going to discuss one of the new super rare attacks from set 9's Darkstalker: Realm of Midnight. That card is Ira-Spinta.
As you can see, it fronts the undesirable stat of 5/2 3M4 with a +1M
block, but the selling points of this card are its symbols and ability.
Let's 1st look at the card's symbols. Fire is a noteworthy aggro
symbol and Air-Order has the many support from Jedah adding onto the
already great cards from the previous sets such as Tag Along and
Military Rank. This card has aggro and control written all over it
based on its symbol alone.
Is this card the new chase super rare attack? There are other
candidates in line for this title. Those cards are Yoroi-Doichi,
Darkness Blade and Great Gerdenheim.. I may have left out a few others
but these are the 1st to come to mind. Ira-Spinta (iSpin) is also a
throw attack with the continuous ability of dealing half damage
(rounded up) when completely blocked, thus the comparison to it's
stronger predecessor, Chain Throw.
Why is it that I compared this card to chain throw? Well, it shares
2 symbols, is a throw, is 5DF, has 3M speed/zone and disables 2 cards
in the opponent's staging area. It fails in comparison to Chain Throw
damage and CC stat-wise, but it's block modifier is enough to make it
up.
Let's take a closer look at iSpin's E. It has an expensive cost of
losing a non-character card of the opponent's choice which is placed
into your momentum. The bright side of that cost is that you get a
free momentum that isn't respondable to because of it being a cost.
Then you get to add 2 non-character cards of your choice from the
opponent's staging area to their momentum. Being able to take away 2
troublesome cards in their stage is what made this card such a worthy
5/2 card. The bad side to this is that your opponent will have 2
momentums at their disposal. Will this card be an auto-add to any deck
that can use it? My answer is yes (if you could afford it). It has a
gamebreaking ability that can spell the difference in win and lost and
inside characters such as Cervantes5, Victor2 and Jedah2, controlling
the board has become more feasible.
This card's current value as of the date this article was written is
$13-20. After this coming World Championship 2008, I predict this
card's value to exceed $25. Decks utilizing this card's potential and
symbol abuse will spin their way to the top of the game. Board control
recursion with virtually-guaranteed damage, that's what's written all
over this card.
