A Donovan that doesn't go to time...
We all know
Donovan
from Set 7 as the main man for denying your foundations. When set 8 came out and the 60-dollar Addes Syndicate was released it gave
Donovan all he needed to contend with all the other top control decks. Now with the new Donovan in set 9 you will
not be seeing that type of deck, which probably relieves a lot of players.
***Donovan***
is a 7/20 which are basic stats and still has his Order and Death
resources so he keeps a lot of his control options. With the new resource being Water he now has a symbol he can kill
with fairly well with Concealed Swallow
Swipe am I hinting at dual/tri symbol Donovan?
Now for his
abilities which both of them intrigue which doesn't happen often with a
character lately. First his enhance- "E:
If your attack is not blocked draw X cards. X equals 6 minus your attacks speed
(minimum 0). You may not remove cards from your card cool for the rest of this
combat phase." This screams Moon Sault Slayer discarding the blocks
from your opponent's hand then drawing 4 cards off each copy. The only draw back I see is that you can't
use his response for the rest of the turn.
If you want too take another road and play off Water then fill your deck with speed pumps like Empires Ruin. Either way starting at 7-hand size you can
quickly overwhelm your opponent with card advantage. As for the answers that could come you're way
in the names of Armored Defense, Tough Outer Shell, and Martial
Arts Champion. Donovan has access to Death,
which has access to cards such as Oral
Dead, Addes Syndicate, Instant Success, and Superiority
to deal with anti card draw.
Now onto to
Donovan's response - "R: After you resolve a non-attack cards discard up too 3
cards from you card pool. Only playable
once per turn." This screams to be
combined with Agonai Geri and Ibis Minuet another way to ensure the
loop going in case your opponent can temporary ready the Ibis during the
loop. In addition to that it gives Death and Order the possibility of being aggressive early in the game. But not only being aggressive I can see
players using this response defensively with being able to clear blocks and
actions during their opponents turn. I
am of course thinking of Rejection with
being able to clear it during your opponents turn and dual resource chaining
shouldn't be too difficult.
So to wrap things up the world will be encountering a new
Donovan one that can rip your face off or draw more cards a turn then promo Ukyo.
