Wait... is this a Card of the Day feature? What!? THIS CANNOT BE. Heh. Set 10 is now out, the meta has been hit with the banhammer, so what does that mean for cards nobody in their right mind would use anyway? Will they see play now that the biggest offenders in terms of Response negation (arguable, but the perception stays there) Life Gain and the decline of blocking are all out? That is a question I don't have an answer to. However, here's a question I DO have an answer to. What is this card? It's called Sickle of Sin and don't be fooled by the sexy Egyptian swinging his scythe in what seems, to me, a strange motion, this is actually a good card that will undoubtedly be affected by Addes Syndicate's banning in a negative way. What? Impossible, I hear you say. Addes Syndicate's banning was good for all cards! I'll invite you to read more and find out, obviously.

Before we get to that controversial statement I may have tossed in earlier, let's take a look at the stats of the card. It's a 4/3 attack, with a +2 mid block, making it acceptable in terms of stats at 3 speed mid 3 damage, provided it has a good effect. It rocks the Air, Death and Earth symbols, just as expected from a Zasalamel card out of Flash of the Blades, and it's effect reads : "Whenever your opponent plays a response ability during this attack, it gets +2 damage." That's all she wrote. Yes, really.

Whenever your opponent plays a response ability during this attack, it gets +2 damage as a static ability. Not too shabby. This is why I say this card is disadvantaged by Addes' banning somewhat. The best way to force an opponent to play responses is to bait him in doing so, and what better bait than a powerful R that you don't really need right now. Play R, he negates it, and poof, it's now a 3 mid 5. Bonus if you force him to use Addes. Still, even without the Syndicate on the other side fo the field, negation exists. Mostly in Zasalamel's symbols as far as R negation goes, but from Set 9, there's Bishamon, from set 8, there's No Memories and Kung-Fu Training, provided you play an action card, and if you're planning on using this card as part of a Block 2 rotation deck, Pieces of Eight is still present. Free damage pumps on an attack are never something you can casually toss aside, but this is a non-negotiable (with perhaps the exception of Spiritual Center, but what's the point since you'll just feed it more at the cost of committing a foundation!)

This card, however, truly shines when Bounce Back hits the board. Through Death, you can make a decently speed buffed monster, with a decently damage buffed monster, all in one card, using free abilities. And yes, it has been confirmed, if they use something to buff their control check BEFORE the check is made, it counts for both attempts. Agree or disagree, this is something that is extremely great to have and know, as it's a grey-area strategy and it will be sure to make a few heads spin when you pull it out.

Ultimately, though, is this card all that? I personally believe so, but I can see where people may draw the line. To be buffed, your opponent has to use a whole mess of responses, it doesn't have a great speed (especially since blocking may make a come-back with the Injuries and Revitalize gone), it doesn't have a great printed damage. However, this card is the poster child of "potential". It has the potential, with only one other card, to become one of the hardest and fastest hitting attacks in the game at the cost of, well, nothing at all, really. This is why I personally like it, but I wouldn't put it in a deck that doesn't expect to get in a large response war. After all, this card was made as a deterrent to such nonsense.
