Interview
Dani Carpenter
Oregon, Wisconsin
If I had to sum up Dani in 2 words, James Hata would come to mind. From the first time I talked to Dani to set up the interview the last week or so we started talking about the cards in Set 8, and I felt like I was talking with James. I think they have a similar mind set in the deck building process (of course not exactly the same, for no one can be exactly the same). Another thing they shared was the out spoken confidence with encountering a meta I know how James is with that with the various matches I had at him while in NY and Gencon. After hearing Dani's insight and knowledge of the game they seemed quite similar. The dead ringer I think they had going for them is the fact they take the jankyness of a random character and will be determined to win with it. We know Hatas experience with this and Dani did the same thing with Sogetsu* in her local Meta. The other reasons the interview with Dani and I went so smoothly was perhaps that she was interviewed by STG earlier this year. So once again, thanks so much for your time and insight Dani, and I can't wait to meet up with you during Nationals or Gencon this year.

It's not often that a major event occurs so close to my hometown. I was a shoe-in for participation, of course. That said, I wanted to try something different with my coverage of this event, as my coverage of the GCC took the better part of a month to relate back to readers. Instead of running around with a pen and pad like I usually do, I wanted to just try to absorb the tournament as any other perceptive player would. That means no tournament report, but I'm sure there are already several good ones on the forums. What I have instead, are a handful of the best decks of the SCC, taken apart and analyzed for your reading pleasure, along with my interpretations on the future of the format. Enjoy! |
